A Beautiful Mess – Part 4

Purity Mess

A Beautiful Mess Series.png

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.—Genesis 2:24–25 (ESV)

Difficult to build a life of righteousness on a foundation of  sin.

Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. 8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”—Genesis 3:7–10 (ESV)

PROMISE #1: I PROMISE THAT GOD WILL BE FIRST PRIORITY AND MY SPOUSE WILL BE MY SECOND.

PROMISE #2: I PROMISE I WILL ALWAYS PURSUE MY TWO.

PROMISE #3: I PROMISE OUR MARRIAGE WILL BE ABOUT “WE” AND NOT “ME”.

PROMISE #4: I PROMISE TO CONFIDE IN YOU & NOT HIDE FROM YOU.

for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.—Ephesians 5:8–11 (ESV)

But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.—Ephesians 5:3 (ESV)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.—Matthew 5:27–28 (ESV)

Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house,—Proverbs 5:8 (ESV)

HOW CAN WE STAY PURE?

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.—Psalm 119:9–11 (ESV)

Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy!

Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.—Proverbs 28:13 (ESV)
