… But God PT.5
Series Verse:
Psalm 73:26 (ESV) – My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
But God…
That’s not fair!
Genesis 50:20 (NLT) – You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.
What does our flesh want to do?
What does the Bible say we should do when it is unfair?
Matthew 5:39–42 (NLT) – But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. 40 If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. 41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. 42 Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow.
Proverbs 25:21–22 (NLT) – If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. 22 You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the Lord will reward you.
Matthew 5:44 (NLT) – But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!
Ephesians 4:32 (NLT) – Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
What was Jesus’ heart when it was unfair?
Luke 23:32–34 (NLT) – Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with him. 33 When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
Genesis 50:17 (NLT) – to say to you: ‘Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you—for their sin in treating you so cruelly.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept.
What if we saw the unfair the way Jesus did?
Genesis 50:17 (NLT) – to say to you: ‘Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you—for their sin in treating you so cruelly.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept.
1) We would understand God has a divine plan.2) We would see the brokenness in others.3) We would remember the unfairness done to our Savior.Romans 8:28 (NLT) – And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Genesis 50:20 (NLT) – You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.
