Absolute moral truth exists-and those truths are defined by God, described in the Bible, and are unchanging across time and cultures.

John 8:31–38 (ESV) – So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. 38 I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”
We will find our directions of truth from somewhere. Where?

Moral Relativism VS Moral Common Sense or Moral Intuition

Question 1: Does right and wrong exist?

Flaws of Moral Relativism

  1. No one can ever be accused of doing anything wrong.
  2. No basis to complain with the problem of evil.
  3. You can’t accept praise or blame.
  4. You can never improve your morality.
  5. You cannot promote the virtue of tolerance.

Question 1: Does right and wrong exist?
Question 2: If so, where do we find the standard?

We believe absolute truth is found in the Canon.

How deeply has moral relativism seeped into the church?

  • 46% of Evangelicals reject absolute moral truth.
  • 48% of Evangelicals accept absolute moral truth.
  • 43% of born-again Christians still embrace absolute truth.
  • 96% of those with a Biblical worldview more likely than other people to say that God is the basis of truth.
  • 38% of those without a Biblical worldview say that God is the basis of truth.
  • 85% of those with a Biblical worldview reject the idea that there are no absolute truths.

So where are Americans looking for truth?

  • 42% – God is the basis of truth
  • 16% – Inner Certainty
  • 15% – Scientific Proof
  • 5% – Traditional
  • 4% – Public Consensus
  • 5% – No truth
  • 13% – No basis for truth

58% of Americans surveyed say it’s up to the individual to decide what is true or moral.

Belief in absolute moral truth rooted in God’s word is rapidly eroding among all American adults, whether churched or unchurched, within every political segment, and within every age group.—The American Worldview Inventory 2020

What does God’s Word say about truth?

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!—Isaiah 5:20 (ESV)

In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.—Judges 21:25 (ESV)

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the LORD.—Proverbs 17:15 (ESV)

and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.—Ephesians 4:24 (ESV)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.—John 14:6 (ESV)

Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are. 5 Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of fools, or they will become wise in their own estimation.—Proverbs 26:4–5 (NLT)

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or from you? 2 You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. 3 And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.—2 Corinthians 3:1–6 (ESV)

Conclusion:

Moral truth can only be found in an unchanging source that has a moral code that is written upon the hearts of all mankind, and that source can only be God’s very words to us written in the Bible.
