The ultimate purpose of human life is to know, love, and serve God with all your heart, mind, strength and soul.

And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.—Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)

Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”—Matthew 22:37–40 (NLT)

How are we designed according to scripture?

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us…—Genesis 1:26a (NLT)

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.—1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NLT)
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.—Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

What is our purpose here on earth?

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.—John 15:16 (NLT)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.—Matthew 28:19 (NLT)

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.—Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

Our purpose is to Love  God!

And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.—Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)

Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.—Matthew 22:37–38 (NLT)

Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.—Deuteronomy 7:9 (NLT)

Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”—John 14:21 (NLT)

Our equal purpose is to love others!

A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’—Matthew 22:39 (NLT)

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.—1 John 4:7–8 (NLT)

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.—John 13:34 (NLT)

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.—1 Peter 4:8 (NLT)

The Great Scale of Love

The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”—Matthew 22:40 (NLT)

It is impossible to love God without loving others.

It is equally impossible to love others without loving God.

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. 46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.—Matthew 5:43–48 (NLT)

Conclusion:

What we think of as our purpose in life will reveal itself through our priorities. Has something creeped in and taken priority over our heavenly Father?
