ThanksGIVING Pt.2

All For Him

“Worship is the reverential response of creation to the all encompassing magnificence of God.”

The word hallelujah comes from the Hebrew phrase הַלְלוּ־יָהּ (halĕlû-yāh) and it means praise Yahweh.

Psalm 112:1 (NIV)– Praise the Lord (Hallelujah). Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.

Psalm 115:14–18 (NIV)– May the Lord cause you to flourish, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind. It is not the dead who praise the Lord, those who go down to the place of silence; it is we who extol the Lord, both now and forevermore. Praise the Lord. (Hallelujah)

In the New Testament, a shift takes place and Jesus fulfills the law and rather than worshiping through ritual and regulation, the church now worships by submission to Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV)- Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1. Rejoice always. Always be joyful. Chose Joy!

Joy is not an accident of temperament or an unpredictable providence; joy is a matter of choice. J. I. Packer

Philippians 4:4 (NIV)- Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

The 1st step to giving God a heart of worship is choosing joy.

2. Pray continually. Never stop praying.

James 2:17 (NIV)– In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

We can make the correct choices, begin to take action, but if our motive is wrong, the choices and actions are in vain.

3. Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

This piece is all about our posture of heart.

In order to give thanks in all circumstances, our heart has to be turned towards Jesus.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)– And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Jesus doesn’t need you to do anything if you aren’t doing it WITH him.

Colossians 2:6–7 (NIV)– So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Romans 12:1 (NIV)– Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

In the Old Testament, worship was sacrifices brought into the temple.

For us now, if Jesus lives in you, you are the temple and your position heart and the way that you live is your worship.

So the question I want to ask you today, is God pleased with your worship?

Are you giving all for him and doing all with him?

Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)– “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
