Psalm 23 (NKJV) – A Psalm of David. 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
I shall not want.
You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.—Revelation 3:17 (NLT)
Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”—Mark 10:21 (NLT)
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”—John 16:33 (NLT)
Who is the Master of your want?
Jesus or Sin and Satan
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.—John 10:10–11 (NLT)
Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms.—Psalm 68:19 (NLT)
He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.—Psalm 121:3 (NLT)
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
Sheep don’t lie down to rest unless they are free from issues with:
1) Fear
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.—2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.—Psalm 4:8 (NLT)
2) Friction
I myself will tend my sheep and give them a place to lie down in peace, says the Sovereign LORD. 16 I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful. I will feed them, yes—feed them justice!—Ezekiel 34:15–16 (NLT)
“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will surely judge between the fat sheep and the scrawny sheep. 21 For you fat sheep pushed and butted and crowded my sick and hungry flock until you scattered them to distant lands. 22 So I will rescue my flock, and they will no longer be abused. I will judge between one animal of the flock and another.—Ezekiel 34:20–22 (NLT)
Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.—1 Timothy 6:6 (NLT)
Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.—Philippians 4:11 (NLT)
God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.—Matthew 5:7 (NLT)
3) Flies
4) Food
He leads me beside still waters.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.—Matthew 5:6 (NLT)
“For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!—Jeremiah 2:13 (NLT)
